Student Practicum Placements

Auburn Student Counseling and Psychological Services (SCPS) is the site where COP students will do their first practicum experience.  Located on Auburn’s campus in the Auburn Medical Clinic, it’s services are free to all students who are currently enrolled in classes. Specializing in individual and group counseling, consultation, eating disorder treatment and stress management services, Auburn SCPS is an excellent site for students to begin their clinical training. The counseling center uses the Brief Therapy model, giving students 10 sessions per semester, as well as an unlimited amount of group sessions. Along with individual therapy, students have the opportunity to co-lead groups and in their second semester, to administer intake sessions with potential clients. Students receive two hours of supervision per week, one individual hour and one group hour. They also participate in one and a half hours of didactic training per week. Auburn SCPS strives to prepare their practicum students for success at their internships sites.

Students have completed other practicum experiences in a number of settings in the greater Auburn area and beyond. These sites have provided opportunities for individual and group therapy, assessment administration, substance abuse counseling, community outreach programming, and more.
